May 04 - 10, 2022
& Nov 05 - 11, 2022

Come and discover the Spanish island of Tenerife's extraordinary beauty and diversity, with remote mountain-ridge villages, cultured port settlements and charming ancient towns.

Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s seven Canary Islands, lying off the coast of West Africa. Dominated by Mount Teide, a dormant volcano and Spain's tallest peak, Tenerife has many beaches with sands from yellow to black and many resort areas, making it a popular destination for holidaymakers. But Tenerife offers more than that - come and discover an island of extraordinary beauty and diversity, with remote mountain-ridge villages, historic ports and charming ancient towns. It's unique location and a superb all year-round climate make it a great destination at any time of year.

This tour will also visit the neighbouring island of La Gomera, the second-smallest of the main islands in Spain’s Canary Island chain. Marked by craggy volcanic mountains where dense forests grow in the mists of Garajonay National Park, discover its Valle Gran Rey canyon, whitewashed cliffside village of La Calera and black-sand Atlantic beaches.

DAY 3 - History and Heights - Mount Teide and Ancient Settlers

This morning will be an unforgettable experience as we visit Mount Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mount Teide is Spain's highest peak and a dormant volcano. Ascending to over 6,500 feet, you will see moonscapes and volcanic stone landscapes. We have also included a ride in the cable car which reaches almost to the summit of the volcano (**see below). We will enjoy lunch together at Portillo Restaurant.

This afternoon we will be surprised by the mystery of the Guanches, the ancient settlers of the Canary Islands. Travelling to the Pyramids of Güímar, an Ethnographic Park we'll see several 6-step pyramids, built from lava stone without the use of mortar. We will also take a walk through the Poison Garden, housing over 70 poisonous plant species, a very unique exhibition in the Canary Islands.

To end the tour, we will visit the Basilica in the coastal resort of Candelaria. This is dedicated to the Patron Saint of the Canaries and home of a famous Black Madonna. In the local square there are the statues of the Guanches Menceyes (Kings), the firsts inhabitants of the Canaries.

We will then drive back to our resort for an evening at leisure.

With our specialist guide, we will see the most important and beautiful corners of the island. We will visit Garajonay National Park, where there is a subtropical forest. We'll also learn about La Gomera's history, which also gave shelter to Cristobal Colón (Christopher Columbus) before he headed to the Americas in search of the 'new world'. During the day, we will also enjoy some traditional and unique Canarian dishes such as alomogrote - a soft paste made from cheese, peppers and other ingredients, as well as  palm honey, local wines and cheeses.

The afternoon will be back at the resort.
